Appeal Court Dismisses PDP’s Suit Against President-Elect, Vice

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has denied a suit by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking the disqualification of Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, and his deputy, Kassim Shettima, in the 25 February election.

In a unanimous decision, a three-member panel chaired by Judge James Abundaga concluded that the PDP had failed to prove that it had a legal basis (locus standi) to bring the action.

According to reports, the PDP asked the appeal court to overturn the judgment issued on January 13 by Justice Inyang Ekwo of a Federal High Court in Abuja, which dismissed its suit on the grounds that the PDP lacked the legal basis to have instituted it.

The appeal was filed under the number CA/ABJ/CV/108/2023.

In the suit, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tinubu and Shettima, and the PDP were the appellants.

The Tinubu/Shettima presidential ticket was challenged by the PDP in a lawsuit that was filed on July 28, 2022.

It claimed that Mr. Shettima had received two nominations and that his selection as the running mate violated Sections 29(1), 33, 35, and 84(1)(2) of the Electoral Act of 2022 (as amended).

It said that Mr. Shettima had neither resigned nor withdrawn his nomination as a candidate for the Borno Central senatorial election as of the moment he was selected as a vice presidential candidate.

The party claimed that Mr. Shettima had broken the law by being nominated as both a vice presidential candidate and a senatorial candidate for Borno Central.

In addition to asking the court to disqualify the APC, Mr. Tinubu, and Mr. Shettima from running in the presidential election slated for February 25, the PDP also requested the court to invalidate their respective candidacies.

Moreover, it requested that the appeal court issue an order directing INEC to strike their names from its list of nominated or supported candidates who are qualified to run for office.

The defendants asked the court to dismiss the case for lack of jurisdiction in their preliminary objection.

Police Arrests Officer Assaulting Civilian In Rivers State

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of its officer caught in a viral video assaulting a civilian in Rivers State.

The Force’s Force Public Relations Officer, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed this, stating that the officers were acting on their own.

“These men have been arrested, and their commander will personally bring them to the Force Headquarters tomorrow Tuesday for further action. They are 3 in number, attached to RRS, Rivers State. Their action does not portray the police in a good light at all.

“It is still to buttress my point that whatever a policeman does is personal, not systemic. I wonder how a man, a reasonable man, would be flogging or slapping a grown-up man in that manner. So barbaric and unpolice,” Adejobi replied to a tweep who reposted the video.

The viral video saw two officers assaulting motorists along a major road in Rivers state.

The motorist, a man wearing white, was slapped by one of the officers with an AK-47 gun.

The officer could be heard giving the guy orders in Pidgin English. He yelled, “Waka de go.” The guy replied, “I thief?” perhaps inquiring as to what he had done wrong to merit the assault.

Celebrity Couple, Port-Harcourt Prophetess, Wanted By NDLEA

Igho Ubiribo and Danielle Simba Allen, a celebrity couple, and Faith Ugochi, a Port Harcourt-based prophetess and the head of Christ Power Adoration Ministries, have been declared wanted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The individuals are allegedly wanted for using underage females as arrowheads for an international gang operating out of Los Angeles, California, to recruit young women for narcotics trafficking (USA).

On November 16, 2022, NDLEA agents at the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) import shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos, intercepted a shipment of 32.70 kilograms of Loud, a potent variety of Cannabis sativa hidden in cartons of used clothing. This discovery led to the exposure of the cartel.

Ukoh Ifeanyi Oguguo, a freight agent, was detained together with Chikodi Favour, Obiyom Shalom Chiamaka, Nnochiri Chidinma Promise, and Edward Omatseye, according to the Agency’s spokeswoman, Femi Babafemi, in a statement released yesterday (aka Montana).

Favour, 15, was the first salesgirl detained at a gas station in the Ajah neighborhood of Lagos, said Babafemi.

She then took the agents to a duplex residence near Ikate in Lekki, which was subsequently found to be a rented property by the criminal organization, specifically for four young females that the gang utilizes for marketing and distribution of illegal substances.

Together with Favour, another girl from the house was chosen, Shalom, a recent graduate in Agricultural Science from Rivers State University of Science and Technology.

The celebrity couple Ubiribo Igho and Danielle Allen, who serves as the arrowheads of the illegal trade, as well as Prophetess Faith Ugochi, who hires teenage girls as sales representatives for the couple, have also been declared wanted by the NDLEA, and this request was granted by the Federal High Court of Lagos.
