Messi Set To Surpass Ronaldo As Highest-Paid Footballer

Lionel Messi is set to be offered a lucrative deal of up to £288 million per year by Saudi Arabia Football Club Al-Hilal.

The 35-year-old might be on the verge of leaving Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain this summer since he has just under six months left on his current contract.

In 20 games for PSG this season, Messi has scored an astounding 13 goals and contributed 14 assists. He also scored seven goals during the World Cup in Qatar.

According to reports, Inter Miami is very interested in the former Barcelona player, and David Beckham is considering a transfer to Major League Soccer.

While Messi himself has said he would be eager to play in the States before his career comes to an end, the ex-Manchester United midfielder has long raved about the possibility of a superstar like Messi joining his MLS team.

But, after rival Saudi Premier League club Al-Nassr finalized the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo last month, Mundo Deportivo claims that Saudi Arabian powerhouses Al-Hilal are preparing a mega-money bid for Messi. Messi would surpass Ronaldo as the highest-paid player in the world with the rumored amount.

On December 30, Ronaldo signed a £173 million deal with Al-Nassr following his contentious departure from Manchester United, during which he criticized the team, the Glazers, and manager Erik ten Hag.

Throughout the previous 20 years, the 37-year-old has competed against Messi for both individual and team honors, and that may now continue in the Middle East.

In the meanwhile, having two of the greatest players of all time play in Saudi Arabia’s domestic league would be a major plus in their campaign to host the 2030 World Cup with Greece and Egypt.

Al-Hihal is reportedly willing to pay Messi £ 266 million annually or up to £ 288 million annually in order to retain his services. Messi is a seven-time Ballon d’Or winner.

“I had never dreamed or thought about this.

“My dream was to enjoy what I liked when I was little, to be a professional soccer player, to do what I always loved in this life.

“I had a very long road, many decisions, and defeats, but I always looked ahead and wanted to go for a triumph, for a victory.

“I think that is the most important thing, to fight for your dreams, that everything is possible and to enjoy the game, which is the most beautiful thing there is,” Messi said.

Miniature versions of the World Cup and Copa America trophies that Argentina won in 2021 were also given to the team’s players and coach, Lionel Scaloni.

After Messi’s 800th career goal in a 2-0 friendly victory against Panama on Friday, the Argentina Football Association renamed the national team’s practice facility in his honor on Saturday.

If he scores in Tuesday’s friendly against Curacao, Messi, who now has 99 goals for Argentina, would become the first player in history to reach the century mark.

Bayern Munich Appoints Thomas Tuchel As Head Coach
