Ronaldo Linked To New Club

Portuguese forward, Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked to Saudi Arabian club, Al-Hilal, after his contract termination with Manchester United.

The club had earlier shown interest in the 37-year-old, with a fee worth around £305m rejected, as revealed by the player.

According to Sky Sports, if Al-Hilal gets to sign Ronaldo, they will listen to offers for Odion Ighalo, whose contract is up in the summer.

The 5-times Balon d’Or winner is now a free agent after the mutual termination of his contract with Manchester United, following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

“The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances and wishes him and his family well for the future.

“Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch,” the club statement read.

Al Hilal SFC is a professional multi-sports club based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Their football team competes in the Saudi Professional League.

They are the most decorated club in Asia winning 65 official trophies. They also hold the record for the most continental trophies in Asia, as well as a record 18 Professional League titles.

In a message posted on his social, Ronaldo expressed his undying love for the English club and its fans, as he parts.

I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge. I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future,” Ronaldo wrote

Chalobah Extends Contract With Chelsea

Chelsea’s defender, Trevoh Tom Chalobah has penned down a contract extension with the English Premier League club.

The Blues made the announcement in an official statement on its website, with the contract expected to last till the summer of 2028.

The club wrote; “Trevoh Chalobah has signed a contract extension at Chelsea.

“The defender, who joined the club at the age of nine and has progressed through the ranks to become a regular in the senior side, is now committed to the Blues until at least June 2028, with a club option to extend to 2029.

In 2007, the Sierra Leone born joined the club at just eight years old, before signing his first professional contract with Chelsea in June 2016 and signing a new contract in March 2018.

The 23-year-old has made 43 appearances for the Blues in his 18 months as a senior player at Stamford Bridge and will be hoping for plenty more in the years to come.

Speaking on his new contract, Chalobah said playing for Chelsea was a dream come true for him, and promises to give his best.

‘I’m over the moon to sign this contract. It’s been an honor every time I put the shirt on. I want to give my all and do anything for this club.

‘As everyone knows I’ve been here from a young age and to continue here is every kid’s dream. Whenever I get the chance, I’ll give my all to the club and look to the future ahead.

‘I want to say thanks to God for this, without Him none of this would be possible. And just always believing. Thanks to my family as well as the club for trusting in me. I’ll now continue to give my all,” he said.

Apple Interested In Buying Man United

The world’s largest technology company, Apple has shown interest in purchasing English Premier League Club, Manchester United.

According to reports by Daily Star UK, the US tech company are willing to offer Joel and Avram Glazer £ 5.8 billion.

Recall, the owners had earlier announced the club was up for sale, as part of strategic alternatives.

“Manchester United plc (NYSE: MANU), one of the most successful and historic sports clubs in the world, announces today that the Company’s Board of Directors (the “Board”) is commencing a process to explore strategic alternatives for the club.

“The process is designed to enhance the club’s future growth, with the ultimate goal of positioning the club to capitalize on opportunities both on the pitch and commercially.  

“As part of this process, the Board will consider all strategic alternatives, including new investment into the club, a sale, or other transactions involving the Company.  This will include an assessment of several initiatives to strengthen the club, including stadium and infrastructure redevelopment, and expansion of the club’s commercial operations on a global scale, each in the context of enhancing the long-term success of the club’s men’s, women’s and academy teams, and bringing benefits to fans and other stakeholders, the club wrote.

Apple has never previously owned a major sports team, but the commercial opportunities provided by United are said to be a primary factor in their interest.

The World Cup 2022 which kicked off on Sunday, 20th November, came with thrills, as the first round of the group stage comes to an end.

NEWSRAND lists below some of the moments of the first round of the group matches;

Host nation defeat:

Qatar’s loss to Ecuador was the first ever in the tournament’s 92 years history that a host nation lost its opening game.

The two goals scored by Enner Remberto Valencia in the first half of the game, was enough to secure the win for the visitors, as Qatar will battle Senegal and Netherlands to secure a spot in the knock-out phase.

Brace on Debut:

In England’s 6-2 win over Iran, Arsenal’s man, Bukayo Saka scored two stunners, in his first-ever world cup.

His London rival, Richarlison, also got two goals on his debut, with a goal that will be among the tournament’s contenders, as Brazil gets a 2-0 win over Serbia.

Ghana breaks Jinx:

Andre Ayew scored against Portugal, as Ghana becomes the first and only African country to score in the first round of the group stage.

The match which ended in a 3-2 loss for the Black stars, saw a late goal again from substitute, Osman Bukari.

5 successive tournament goals:

Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal from the penalty spot makes him the first Male player in the tournament’s history to score in five consecutive World Cups.


The major highlight of the tournament was an unbelievable comeback from Saudi Arabia, defeating Messi-led Argentina. The defeat ended their longest-ever unbeaten run.

In a similar way, Japan came from a goal deficit to defeat four-times tournament champions, Germany.

Country record scorer

Oliver Giroud scores twice, equalling Thierry Henry’s record of 51 international goals for France as the defending champions opened their World Cup 2022 Group D campaign with a 4-1 victory over Australia.


Germany planned to wear the “one love” armband to show support for the LGBTQ+ community, given that Qatar has laws against homosexuality. Once they were told they couldn’t wear it, the nation protested it, with the starting line-up all covering their mouths for the team photo to show suppressed voices.
