Oil Theft: Police Arrest Three, Reiterates Determination To End Sabotage

The Nigeria Police Force has disclosed its continuous fight to end oil theft and economic sabotage in the country.

Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) disclosed this in a release after briefing the Senate Ad-hoc Committee to Investigate Oil Lifting, Theft, and the Impact on Petroleum Production and Oil Revenues.

The law enforcement also announced the arrest of three suspected oil thieves, recovering tanks, drums, and others.

“In one of the cases, operatives of the IGP-STFPIB successfully discovered and busted the operations of an illegal refinery on 21st September 2022 in Jijoro Community Riverside, Delta State, a creek of about one-hour boat ride.

“Suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) stuffed in 138 sacks, 10 empty surface tanks (ovens) used as cooking pots, 20 empty drums for storage 1 boat engine 2 pumping machines were recovered.

“Three suspects, Happy Gift Lawson ‘M’ aged 18, Ejime Precious Lande ‘M’ aged 22, and John Jugu Fom ‘M’ X aged 25 were equally arrested,” the statement read.

With the seizure of 1,301,020 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), 135,000 litres of crude oil, 4,900 litres of premium motor spirit (PMS) 45,000 litres of engine oil, and 123 Tankers, the IGP commended the Inspector-General of Police Special Task Force on Petroleum and Illegal Bunkering (IGP-STFPIB).

NITDA Commences Application For Digital Economy Employability Program

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has announced its ongoing application for Digital Economy Employability Program.

The public service institution disclosed this in an official statement released on its social media, with the theme of the program tagged “Driving inclusive digital adoption, optimization and connecting participants to deeper opportunities in the digital economy.”

How to apply?

To apply for the Digital Economy Employability Program, qualified candidates is expected to visit https://deep.nitda.gov.ng/. You are to proceed by clicking of the ‘eligibility and registration’ button.

A form is provided, and you are to fill in the necessary details and submit the application.

Know the Eligibility Criteria:

Below is a listed eligibility criterion for the NITDA employability program.

  • Beginner in the Digital Economy with NO prior IT skills
  • Have an interest in IT skill development
  • Available for training in your State of Residence.
  • Ready to dedicate 2 hours daily for self-paced certification.

Application closing date:

The Application is ongoing, which kicked off on Thursday, the 24th of November 2022, and it is expected to close on Wednesday, the 30th of November, 2022.

Training date for the program?

Training begins on 5th December 2022.

EFCC Partners NDA To Fight Cyber Threat

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced a partnership with Nigerian Defence Academy to fight national cyber threats.

Abdulrasheed Bawa, Executive Chairman of the law enforcement agency reiterated the collaboration when he was visited by the academy Commandant, Major Gen. I.M Yusufat in Abuja.

“The Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, on Wednesday, 23 November 2022 restated the desire of the Commission to intensify its training collaboration with the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA, especially in the area of cybersecurity to tackle emerging threats.

“He (Abdulrasheed Bawa) stated this when he received Major Gen. I.M Yusuf, Commandant NDA at the Commission`s headquarters, Abuja.

“While expressing gratitude to the NDA for coming to the aid of the Commission in 2016 and 2017 in training the highest number of cadets ever assembled for a course in the EFCC, Bawa commended NDA’s interest in Cybersecurity,” the commission wrote.

How FG Can Tackle Revenue Funding For Universities -Fashola

Babatunde Fashola, the Minister of Works and Housing, has stated that alternative funding would be very helpful in the Federal Government’s (FG) pursuit to tackle the revenue challenges for universities.

In a statement signed by the Ministry’s Director of Press, Blessing Adams-Lere, Fashola noted that a printing press, consultancy services, and poll results are credible funding proposals for tertiary institutions.

According to the minister, collective funding of education is needed by various levels of government and is not exclusive to the federal government as commonly insinuated.

University consultancy services, data provision, poll results, value data and printing press are value proposals of alternative for tertiary Institutions.

“Tertiary education is on the concurrent list, meaning that states and federal governments can fund education in the country,” the statement quoted Fashola as saying.
