Tarkowski’s Goal Ends Arsenal’s 14-Game Unbeaten Run

Tarkowski Scores To Ends Arsenal's 14-Game Unbeaten Run

James Tarkowski scored the game’s lone goal in the English Premier League’s opening match on Saturday to give Everton the victory and end Arsenal’s 14-game unbeaten run.

With the loss, the Gunners lossed points and suffered the club’s second league loss of the season, after missing plenty of good opportunities.

Just before the hour mark, the defender headed in a Dwight McNeil corner to give Sean Dyche’s management a winning start.

Since 2017, Arsenal hasn’t triumphed at Goodison Park.

The EPL front-runners’ greatest opportunity of the first half came on a counterattack when Buyako Saka slid Eddie Nketiah in for the game’s first clear sight of goal, but the prolific striker scuffed his attempt just wide of the near post.

Towards the close of the first half, Saka made a rare push forward and saw a volley past Jordan Pickford, but Conor Coady was there to block it off his own goalline.

The Toffees had the last say in the first 45 minutes, and Calvert-Lewin once more came just inches short of converting a cross, but the ball sailed wide of the far post.

Just before the hour mark, Tarkowski headed in a delightful corner from McNeil to put Dyche’s new club ahead. The goal drove Goodison into a frenzy.

Everton stood back to defend, as they held onto a crucial three points.

In his first Premier League game in command of a club, Sean Dyche made history by becoming only the second manager to defeat a team starting the day top of the league.

For the first time since March 1977 to August 1978, Everton has defeated Arsenal three times in a row at Goodison Park.

All of the clubs competing in the last 16 of the Champions League can add up to three new players to their List A squad for the remainder of the competition. There are no restrictions on players who have already represented other clubs in this season’s competition.

However, if those new additions take the total number of players on List A – comprising at least eight locally-training players, four of whom must have come through the club’s own ranks between the ages of 15 and 21 – beyond the maximum of 25, other players must be removed from the squad to make space.
