Lagos Elections: Ambode’s Ally Secures APC N50Mn Governorship Form

Wale Oluwo, a close friend of former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, has purchased his All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship form, as he will rival Gov. Sanwo-Olu for the seat.

Oluwo submitted his forms to the party on Wednesday at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

The party had previously a single aspirant for the seat, extended the sales of forms, as the former Energy and Mineral Resources Commissioner during Ambode’s tenure, seized the opportunity.

The deadline set by the APC for the sales of nomination and expression of forms was initially May 10, 2022.

The APC aspirant vowed to defeat the incumbent governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at the APC governorship primary election later this month.

So far, only two aspirants have submitted the party’s governorship forms in Lagos — Sanwo-Olu and Oluwo.

Recall, APC chieftain, Bola Tinubu, had endorsed Sanwo-Olu for the second term in 2023.

The Presidential aspirant, had in 2018 kicked against the second term bid of Ambode, which led to the emergence of Sanwo-Olu as the APC candidate in the 2019 governorship election in the state.

Since the end of Military rule, Ambode became the first Lagos State Governor to lose a second term.

Tinubu was governor between 1999 and 2007; as well as current Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, who was governor from 2007 to 2015.

Since Ambode left office in 2019, Ambode has stayed off politics. He also has not been seen at functions with any of his predecessors or his successor.
