BREAKING: Mikel Obi Retires From Football

Mikel Obi Retires From Football

Former Super Eagles Captain, Mikel Obi has retired from professional football.

Obi made this disclosure on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, in a post on his social media pages.

The post read: “There is a saying that “all good things must come to an end”, and for my professional football career, that day is today.

“I look back at the past 20 years of my career, and I must say that I am very satisfied with all that I was able to achieve and more importantly the human it has helped shape.

“All of this would not have been possible without the unwavering support of my family, managers, clubs, coaches, teammates and most importantly my ever-loyal fans. You supported me through my highs and lows, even on days that I did not live up to your expectations. I say a big thank you.

“I will also like to encourage everyone who I may have inspired one way or the other in the course of my career to never give up on their dreams, for every time you think about quitting, remind yourself why you started.

This is not goodbye, it’s the start of another journey, another chapter of my life. I look forward to what the future holds and I hope you will walk with me. Thank you.”

Rihanna to headline Super Bowl half-time show

The NFL has revealed that pop icon Rihanna will be the half-time performer at the Super Bowl in Arizona in February.

The nine-time Grammy winner announced the news on Twitter by sharing a picture of an NFL-branded football.

In a press release released on Sunday night, the 34-year-old was referred to as a “generational talent” by the organizers.

According to the NFL, this year’s 14-minute performance attracted more than 120 million viewers, making it one of the most sought-after music events.

Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar were among the all-star lineup. The program was honored with an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special (Live).

“Rihanna is a once in a generation artist who has been a cultural force throughout her career,” the NFL’s head of Music Seth Dudowsky said.

And Jay-Z, whose Roc Nation entertainment company will help organise the performance, called the star a “woman of humble beginnings who has surpassed expectations at every turn”.

“A person born on the small island of Barbados who became one of the most prominent artists ever. Self-made in business and entertainment,” he added.

The decision by Rihanna is a significant reversal for the artist, who declined the opportunity to open the concert in 2019 in support of NFL player Colin Kaepernick.

Former San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick hasn’t competed in the league since 2016 as a result of his choice to take a knee during the playing of the national anthem, which helped spark a worldwide movement against racism.

Later, he sued the NFL, claiming that the league’s owners were conspiring to exclude him from the game.

At the time, Rihanna claimed that if she had taken the position, she would have been a “enabler.”

“I just couldn’t be a sell-out,” she told Vogue magazine. “There’s things within that organisation that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way.”
