Kano Is Behind Tinubu For President, Says Speaker

The Speaker of the Kano House of Assembly, Hamisu Chidari said the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state would support the 2023 presidential ambition of the party chieftain Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

He spoke at the inauguration of the Tinubu Support Group and the state steering committees of the TSG in Abuja.

“My purpose is to kick-start the journey that will take us to the Villa by God’s grace with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the number one citizen of Nigeria,” he said.

The lawmaker added, “In Kano, being the state with the highest number of delegates, we have already decided and already concluded; we are set to give him at least 98% of delegates in the primaries. Not only that, we are set as usual to give him the highest number of votes so that come May 29, 2023, we will be at Eagle Square to swear him in as the President.

“All of us in the North-West are aware of the role he played in taking our son, President Muhammadu Buhari, to the Villa. So, we are going to reward him; we are going to pay him back. So, I have assured him of victory. Almost all the delegates from the North-West states are going to vote for him in the next primary elections.”

The purported ambition of the former governor of Lagos State was said to have deepened the crisis of the APC in Kano State, it was gathered.

2023 Presidential Race: PDP Endorses Saraki

The Federal Capital Territory chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Saturday, December 4, 2021, endorsed former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2023 elections.

Saraki’s adoption came on the heels of similar endorsements by the Benue, Nasarawa, and Niger states chapters within the last seven days.

Shortly before the announcement, party leaders from the FCT observed that the PDP needs a candidate from the North Central to win the 2023 Presidency.

They argued that the North Central zone deserves a shot at the presidency because, despite the immense sacrifice made by sons and daughters of the zone in order to build the PDP, restore and sustain democracy since 1999, no one from the zone has been considered for the top job.

During the endorsement meeting, a chieftain of the party from the FCT, Alhaji Ogah Doma, moved the motion for the adoption of Saraki as the choice of the North Central for the PDP Presidential ticket; the motion was seconded and unanimously adopted by all present.

Those at the meeting included PDP stalwarts such as the FCT PDP chairman, Sunday Zakka, Senator Sulaiman Adokwe, and Dr Musa Ahmadu amongst others.

Newsrand, however, understands that those that are currently jostling for the PDP ticket include; former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Governors Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), and Bala Mohammed (Sokoto).

Court Strikes Out Case Against Soludo's Election

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has dismissed the case against the election of Prof. Charles Soludo as the Governor-elect of Anambra State.

In a judgment delivered by Justice Taiwo Taiwo, the dismissed suit sought to nullify Soludo’s election on the allegation that he presented false information to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during registration.

The plaintiffs, Adindu Valentine, and Egwudike Chukwuebuka, had in their suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/711/2021, alleged that Soludo lied in the affidavit (Form EC9), which he submitted to INEC.

INEC, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Soludo, and the Deputy Governor-elect, Dr. Onyeka Ibezim, were cited as defendants in the suit.

The plaintiffs claimed that Soludo and his running mate had filled in different elective positions in their nomination forms.

The parties claimed the governor-elect stated that he was contesting the Aguata II Constituency seat, while the deputy governor-elect stated that he was contending for the Awka II Constituency seat in the forms they submitted to INEC.
