Kaduna Police Warn Against Election Violence Despite Kidnap Activities

The Kaduna Police Command has warned political parties and candidates in the state to desist from electoral violence in the local government elections.

Newsrand understands that come Saturday, September 4, 2021, local council polls would be held across the state.

Addressing residents in the state, the commissioner of police Mudashiru Abdullahi disclosed that the command has deployed over 11,000 policemen to all parts of the 23 local councils to enforce peace and order during the election.

According to Abdullahi, who addressed candidates and other stakeholders during a peace accord, the policemen were deployed in cognisance of the prevailing security situation in the state, they should ensure smooth conduct of the polls.

His words: “We all attest to the fact that the state is going through some security challenges, which resulted in the closure of some schools.

“Therefore, we cannot afford to go into this election to create tension and fear in the minds of those we aspire to protect, which is part of the dividends of democracy.

“Local council election is a legitimate contest between various political parties and their candidates, supervised by the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC).”

There have been a series of kidnapping events in Kaduna State, leaving hundreds of students in the state as victims of abduction.

While some of the students were released after ransoms were paid to the abductors, others lost their lives in captivity.

Ooni Of Ife: APC And PDP Are Same

Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has cautioned Nigerians against believing politicians, saying the ruling-All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are birds of a feather.

The monarch made this known at his Ile-Oodua palace, Ile-Ife, before heading into seven days of seclusion to commune with the gods ahead of the Olojo Festival.

Speaking to his audience at the palace, Ogunwusi said politicians in the country all cross carpet from one major political party to another in order to only protect their interests and not that of members of the public.

While pledging to pray for his ancestors to renew the minds of Nigerian political elites, Ooni of Ife challenged them to commit themselves genuinely to the offices they occupy.

In Ooni of Ife’s words, “We believe in the forces of nature for nature to conspire in our favour but every other thing in our country they are all man-made, the likes of security, our politicians will take credit for that, they are the ones that caused it till date. I will go again to seclusion for God to touch their heart for them to stop playing all of us like ludo.

“They should be more sensitive about people because it is one political party. They are just crisscrossing from one political party to the other in order to retain their positions. We have one political party in this country, same value, same character, same politician. But I am going to go into seclusion for God to touch their hearts for them to stop playing games with the lives of citizens of this country. It is about time for them to realize that they should serve us genuinely because we can not continue like this.

“This time around is a serious one, it is a request on behalf of the entire people, Yoruba race and by extension our dear Country Nigeria. I am going for God to touch their heart and really pray to my ancestors. We are just deceiving ourselves that they are different,  they are the same. All of them have crossed to the major party but Nigeria is above them all.

“This time around it is a very sensitive one and a very serious one. First of all, to thank God almighty and the spirit of our ancestors that have been guiding us thus far, God has really helped us with the pandemic issue because we won’t be able to handle it when we compare things we have been doing with other nations. We have every course to be thankful to God.

“They said we are spiritual and it is working for us in this country, we have a course to thank God Almighty, that it is not out of hands.  We shouldn’t rest our hoax, I am going to seclusion which is the 6th. I inherited the tradition from my ancestors thousands of years ago.”

Asked if he will support Tinubu as the presidential candidate of the party in 2023, Akeredolu said, “APC is a party. APC will decide who the candidate will be. I have said it several times. I’m going no where. If I leave APC, I am going back to my chamber. For me, whatever APC decides, I will follow.

“We went to London because it was important for us to go and see for ourselves. How he’s doing. He’s the capon for us here. But the time he comes, we can make some serious decisions.”
