Sallah Day Crash: 10 Killed Over Speed Violation

A lone auto crash on Sallah Day on the Ilorin-Jebba Expressway has claimed the lives of 10 people.

The crash, involving an 18-seater commercial Hiace bus, occurred at a location called Iyemoja, in Olooru-Oko Olowo, in the Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The crash, which was reportedly caused by speeding, happened around 4pm.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Jonathan Owoade, who confirmed the incident, said aside from the deceased, several other passengers suffered varying degrees of injuries.

He noted that the commercial vehicle had the number plate, LND 742 XK, adding that the injured were taken to a private medical facility, Ayo Hospital, Oko Olowo, and the General Hospital, Ilorin, for treatment.

The FRSC boss, who said the corpses were deposited in the morgue of the general hospital, commended men of the Nigeria Police Force for supporting the agency during the incident.

Owoade cautioned drivers against speeding, urging them to obey all traffic regulations and be mindful of other road users.

Local Resident Electrocuted While Attempting An Illegal Connection In Ondo

A local resident identified as Mayomi Origbemisuyi was shocked to death while reconnecting a wire on an electric pole in Akungba Akoko, Ondo State.

This happened not very far from an Electricity Distribution Company in the community.

According to local reports, the deceased had attempted an illegal connection before being electrocuted.

“When the incident happened, everybody in the area rushed to the scene to catch the glimpse of what happened and the matter was immediately reported at the police station in the community.” Source said.

The remains of the deceased were deposited at a morgue in the community.

The spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident, revealing the victim to be having psychological issues as an investigation into the incident has begun.

“The information we have is that the man is not mentally stable but we have commenced investigation into the incident.”

Sharia Court Orders Man To Be Flogged, For Denying Fathership Os Child

A Sharia Court sitting in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, on Wednesday ordered that Abdulhamid Yakubu be flogged 80 strokes for denying fathership of his child.

Yakubu a trader of Bakin Dogo had earlier rejected paternity, but the Judge, Murtala Nasir, affirmed that the child belonged to him.

Nasir also ordered him to take responsibility and provide for all his children.

Yakubu, had in September, dragged his wife, Maryam Muhammad to the court, alleging that she was an adulterer and he was not the father of his pregnant wife.

The plaintiff had earlier been given an option to swear an oath or provide proof regarding the paternity of his affirmation of the pregnancy not being his, but he refused.

The couple had been married for 21 years and the defendant, Muhammad, gave birth to the sixth child, named Abdulaziz.

Tears flow among traders and property owners at Itobe market of Ofu Local Government Area in Kogi State, as an early morning fire millions of naira valuables.

According to an eyewitness, the disaster started when a trader’s generating set caught fire, thereby engulfing all shops within the vicinity and destroying them including all property therein.

Although no life was lost during the disaster, the eyewitness recounted that the means of livelihood of the numerous roadside traders were lost in the fire incident.

The Onu Itobe, Alhaji Salihu Adaji, while reacting to the disaster, explained that the incident has thrown many businessmen in his domain to the labour market.

He, therefore, urged people in authority to assist those affected by the fire disaster with capital to restart their businesses.
