Otedola Bridge: Disaster Averted As Tanker Catches Fire

On Friday, May 28, 2021, a fuel-laden tanker caught fire at the Otedola Bridge around the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, sending panic to motorists and residents of the area.

But the fire was put out by responders who quickly moved to the scene to curtail the inferno from the tanker.

No casualty was recorded as of the time of filing this report.

Road users are advised to avoid the corridor as the incident has caused gridlock with motorists stranded around the axis.

Friday’s incident occurred days after the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos State Command, Olusegun Ogungbemide said that there are no demons, witches, or wizards at the Otedola Bridge but reckless drivers and expired trucks were responsible for the incessant crashes around the bridge.

The Otedola Bridge is notorious for road crashes mostly involving fuel-laden tankers and trucks that often explode, resulting in the inferno, burnt vehicles, loss of lives and properties.

Local Resident Electrocuted While Attempting An Illegal Connection In Ondo

A local resident identified as Mayomi Origbemisuyi was shocked to death while reconnecting a wire on an electric pole in Akungba Akoko, Ondo State.

This happened not very far from an Electricity Distribution Company in the community.

According to local reports, the deceased had attempted an illegal connection before being electrocuted.

“When the incident happened, everybody in the area rushed to the scene to catch the glimpse of what happened and the matter was immediately reported at the police station in the community.” Source said.

The remains of the deceased were deposited at a morgue in the community.

The spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident, revealing the victim to be having psychological issues as an investigation into the incident has begun.

“The information we have is that the man is not mentally stable but we have commenced investigation into the incident.”

Sharia Court Orders Man To Be Flogged, For Denying Fathership Os Child

A Sharia Court sitting in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, on Wednesday ordered that Abdulhamid Yakubu be flogged 80 strokes for denying fathership of his child.

Yakubu a trader of Bakin Dogo had earlier rejected paternity, but the Judge, Murtala Nasir, affirmed that the child belonged to him.

Nasir also ordered him to take responsibility and provide for all his children.

Yakubu, had in September, dragged his wife, Maryam Muhammad to the court, alleging that she was an adulterer and he was not the father of his pregnant wife.

The plaintiff had earlier been given an option to swear an oath or provide proof regarding the paternity of his affirmation of the pregnancy not being his, but he refused.

The couple had been married for 21 years and the defendant, Muhammad, gave birth to the sixth child, named Abdulaziz.

Tears flow among traders and property owners at Itobe market of Ofu Local Government Area in Kogi State, as an early morning fire millions of naira valuables.

According to an eyewitness, the disaster started when a trader’s generating set caught fire, thereby engulfing all shops within the vicinity and destroying them including all property therein.

Although no life was lost during the disaster, the eyewitness recounted that the means of livelihood of the numerous roadside traders were lost in the fire incident.

The Onu Itobe, Alhaji Salihu Adaji, while reacting to the disaster, explained that the incident has thrown many businessmen in his domain to the labour market.

He, therefore, urged people in authority to assist those affected by the fire disaster with capital to restart their businesses.
