'Air Yeezy' Breaks Record Of $1.8 Million In Private Sale – Sotheby’s

The Kanye West sneakers ‘Air Yeezy’ that sent athletic shoes strutting down fashion runways sold for 1.8 million dollars (N685million), a new world record price for a pair of sneakers, Sotheby’s announced on Monday.

The American rapper’s 2008 ‘Grammy Worn’ Nike Air Yeezy samples were prototypes for a line developed by West and Mark Smith for Nike.

They were revealed during West’s performance at the 2008 Grammy Awards.

The buyer was sneaker investing platform RARES, which paid the highest publicly recorded price for the pair.

RARES is a leader in fractional ownership, allowing users to invest in sneakers by buying and trading shares in them.

The private sale shattered the current auction record for sneakers, far above the 560,000 dollars (which is over N213million) that Sotheby’s scored in May 2020 for a pair of 1985 Air Jordan 1’s, designed for and worn by basketball player Michael Jordan.

The black leather, size 12 Nike Air Yeezy 1 Prototypes have a Yeezy forefoot strap and the brand’s signature Y medallion lace locks in pink.

They were put up for sale at Sotheby’s by New York collector Ryan Chang.

West wore them for his emotional performances of “Hey Mama” and “Stronger” at the 2008 Grammy Awards, setting off a social media frenzy among fashionistas.

West ended his collaboration with Nike in 2013 and took the brand to Adidas, where the Yeezy brand of sneakers brought in an estimated 1.7 billion dollars in sales in 2020, according to Forbes.

“Our goal in purchasing such an iconic shoe – and a piece of history – is to increase accessibility and empower the communities that birthed sneaker culture with the tools to gain financial freedom through RARES,” said Gerome Sapp, RARES co-founder, and CEO.

Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s head of streetwear and modern collectibles, said, “The sale speaks volumes of Kanye’s legacy as one of the most influential clothing and sneaker designers of our time.”

While West’s relationship with Nike ultimately soured, he inked a new partnership with Adidas in 2013, and since then, he’s grown his Yeezy sneaker and apparel business astronomically.

Ali Baba Condemns Women Who Judge On Social Media

Ali Baba Condemns Women Who Judge On Social Media

Ace comedian and actor, Ali Baba, has condemned hypocrites who easily condemn people online even when they are guilty of the same ‘sins’ or have done it in their early days as youths.

According to the actor, who didn’t mince words in a lengthy tirade on his Instagram live, hypocrites are everywhere.

Ali Baba said in part of his post, “I have been monitoring social media for a bit and what I noticed is that when something happens people jump on the bandwagon. A clear example is when the story of Chidinma Ojukwu broke in the media, some ladies particularly took it upon themselves to begin to abuse the Super TV’s boss, Usifo Ataga, that was killed. Some said ‘why was he jumping up and down… he had no respect for his wife and family and so on.’ Somebody even wrote that he deserved it.

“While I was going through the comments I came across the comment of a lady who is dating my friend who is married, she was asking why the late Super TV boss was having an affair with Chidinma in the first place. Also, a week ago, the issue of a lady who was the secretary to Adenuga came up and the same lady jumped on the trend again. This times she was asking “what was wrong with Adenuga, that he should have left the woman alone, why can’t he leave the house for her…” But If you must come to equity, you must come with clean hands.

“Let me say this most of the women who are online, some who come out to speak, we just ignore some of them. If we begin to mention names some of them will not last in their husbands’ houses. There are some girls/ladies who own houses and businesses in Lagos State, I mean in highbrow areas in Lagos like Banana Island, Victoria Garden City, Osborne, etc. A lot of them were dating civilian governors, military governors, etc. The problem with some of us is that when it comes to that we like to ignore it.

“Some of these women who are in their 50s and above now were dating governors in their younger ages. Didn’t we hear of newscasters that were marrying big men and billionaires?  They have now got to a particular age where their market is no longer selling and the girls who went to #Oba in Anambra (For Obi Cubana’s mom’s burial) are now prostitutes. But you were in the business before the younger ones came to take over. By the way, there are some ladies who are leading praise and worship in churches today, but they are not holy. Don’t forget that the ladies that have children are the bad ones; what about you that has removed multiple pregnancies? You’re not considered bad because the pastor sees you as a holy person. The one that had a child out of wedlock is considered bad. Some ladies would have dated married men from their 20s to their 30s and finally got married, then when they see others dating married men it becomes a sin and they condemn easily…”

BBNaija: MultiChoice Addresses Why 2021 Edition Will Air Without SMS voting

MultiChoice, the organisers of BBNaija reality TV show, has revealed that, unlike previous editions, the highly-anticipated 2021 edition will air without SMS voting.

In an interview with Punch, Busola Tejumola, the Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice Nigeria, explained that content tailored to Africans is more of a priority.

Her words: “At the end of the day, what we focus on is providing the best content for Africans by Africans. We would like to stay true to that and that is why everything we do revolve around that. We tried online voting for years, and last year, viewers were able to vote on the GOTV and DSTV apps, and they were able to vote multiple times. This year, we decided to change the format of voting so that every subscriber can vote for free on our apps. This year, we would be dropping the SMS voting and allow people to focus on the content we are providing.”

The show will however launch for the first time ever across two evenings. The first part of the premiere will air on Saturday, June 24 while the second part will air on Sunday, June 25, 2021.

Obi Cubana Breaks Silence On Controversial Wealth

Popular socialite, Obi Cubana has opened up on his controversial wealth after the lavish display of affluence on his mother’s burial stirred reactions on social media.

Obi Cubana, who lost his mother in December 2020, laid her to rest on Friday, July 16, 2021, in Oba, Anambra State.

Preparations for the funeral caught the attention of many after the club owner received 246 cows from his friends.

Speaking on his source of wealth, Obi Cubana said; “I want to state this clearly, I am not the talking type or Social media interest-free person”

“Many have questioned the type of boys and friends I have, to me, I hardly address anyone as my boy because we are all boys to God Almighty.

“I don’t have any boy who is into rituals, if you are my boy or my man because I like to address my boys as my men, it means you are working hard and you made your money in a clean way.

“In 2013, I pushed 53 uneducated Oba boys into the market to learn a trade. In 2017, I withdrew all of them from their Ogas and settled all of them with N3 million each, and paid for their shops.

“I linked 40 of them into importation and made them use my name and platform to import goods into the country. After two years, I checked on them how they were doing and find out some had issues and I supported them again to stand.

“I am happy today that out of the 53 men, 38 are billionaires while the rest are in the level of a millionaire.

“In 2018, I took 100 educated men out of streets and introduced them to the white men for business, and today they are billionaires in dollars.

“They also help me in their capacity when I require their help. All their friends both Nigeria and outside patronizes me.

“I am into hotel and club business, and I have so many businesses I am a brand ambassador too.

“I have an alliance with spirit drinks and wines, I am a brand ambassador to many businesses in the world.

“It gives me the joy to see my men do well, none of my hotel managers in Nigeria can smell poverty, I encourage them to raise others from their local communities.

“I have never sacked a worker due to misconduct, I bring you in and speak to you in the way you will understand.

“I have this understanding that we should allow the stubborn people to exist and cool-headed people to exist and we make use of them when their needs arise.

“I don’t believe in the supremacy of power, rather I believe in the fair share of power and authority and allow everyone to feel belonged.”
