Neymar Will Stay in PSG Until 2025

Brazil forward Neymar has committed his future to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) by extending his contract until 2025.

Neymar joined the Ligue 1 champions from FC Barcelona on a five-year deal at a world record cost of 222 million euros (270 million dollars) in August 2017.

He had been linked with a return to Barca, but the 29-year-old has now firmly committed to PSG, who announced his new deal on Saturday.

The former Santos star’s new terms, according to media reports in Paris, will see him earn 30 million euros per season in the French capital.

Neymar said: “I’m very happy, very happy to be extending my contract with Paris until 2025.

“The truth is that I’m very happy to be staying here for four more years, to be a part of the club’s project, to try and win titles, to try and achieve our biggest dream which is the Champions League.”

Neymar appeared eager to rejoin FC Barcelona in July 2019, when his future in Paris looked in serious doubt.

In recent weeks, he was even linked again with a switch to Camp Nou.

On signing up for the next four years, he suggested there was regret on his part at making life difficult for PSG chiefs in the past.

“I have changed a lot. I have learned a lot,” Neymar said, quoted on the club’s official website.

“Things have happened that should not have happened. We had fights, a few sad times, but overall the evolution has been very positive.

“I am happy, I am proud to be part of the history of Paris Saint-Germain. I think I have improved as a person, as a human being, and as a player too.

“So, I am very happy to be extending my contract, to be part of the history of Paris and I hope to put many more trophies on the shelf for Paris Saint-Germain.

“Of course, my goal when I came to Paris Saint-Germain was to help get Paris Saint-Germain to the top, among the very best, and we are getting close.

“We are gaining more and more experience to help us negotiate these types of games, to know how to play in the Champions League.

“And Paris is on the right track, we are getting closer and closer to the taste of winning the Champions League. I’m sure we can do it.”

Defeat to Manchester City in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League this season means hopes of lifting that trophy remain unfulfilled.

However, Neymar believes Mauricio Pochettino is a man who can deliver such success, describing him as “a great coach who will certainly help us even more” while also praising his Parc des Princes team-mates.

“These things make you believe in the project even more,” Neymar said.

Super League: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus Vow Not To Pull Out

As Chelsea, Arsenal, and Man City, have pulled out of the newly-established midweek competition, European Super League, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Juventus have vowed not to give up.

The clubs made the vow in spite of the continuous pressure and threats from UEFA and FIFA.

As reported earlier on NEWSRAND, twelve European big football clubs came together to form another league “Super League” to rival the UEFA champions league on the 18th of April.

Following backlash from football enthusiasts, pundits, and stakeholders, nine of the founding clubs, including England’s big six, pulled out to declare their commitments back to UEFA and its competitions at the continental and domestic level.

UEFA in a statement has disclosed that the nine clubs will be fined a combined 15 million euros for goodwill contribution to benefit children’s and grassroots football across Europe.

“Five percent of their revenues made in the UEFA competition are to be withheld as they will also face fines of 100m euros each if they seek to join an unauthorized competition in the future, and a fine of half that if they breach any other terms of the declaration.

The remaining three clubs who are the founding members are to face “appropriate action” under UEFA’s disciplinary action.

In a statement made by the trio, the founding clubs have vowed not to give up on the “European Super League” as they have suffered unacceptable third-party pressures, threats, and offenses to abandon the project and therefore desist from their duty to provide solutions to the football ecosystem via concrete proposals and constructive dialogue.

“It would be highly irresponsible to abandon such a mission that provide effective and sustainable answers to the existential questions that threaten the football industry.

D’banj Unveiled as Captain of Nigeria Motorsport Team

Oladipo Daniel Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, has was on Friday unveiled as Captain of the Racing Nigeria Motorsport Team.

This is in preparation for the Federation International de l’ Automobile (FIA) World Championships in October.

According to agency report, D’banj was unveiled at a ceremony in Abuja attended by motor sport personalities like Alhaji Mahdi Mohammed, the Deputy Governor of Zamfara.

Ishaku Bamaiyi, President, Automobile and Touring Club of Nigeria (ATCN), said the unveiling was the first step towards preparing the country’s representatives for the world championships scheduled for Marseille, France.

The first FIA Motorsport Games held in Rome, Italy, in 2019, saw the participation of about 46 countries in the championship.

“The next event was scheduled for October 2020 but due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was postponed and rescheduled for October 2021, thereby creating room to increase the motorsports disciplines from six to 18.

“The FIA having reviewed our plans for the development of Motorsports in Nigeria asked that the ATCN puts together a team that will participate in the FIA Motorsport Games in 2021.

This gave birth to Festival of Motorsport which will serve as our qualifying series for the FIA Motorsport Games to give everyone the opportunity to try out his or her skills.

“With the exception of the Karting Sprint Junior and Senior, all other disciplines are mix gender with a minimum of two participants and maximum of four participants in a team in the discipline we intend to compete in.

“We intend to compete in the following disciplines – Karting junior and senior, Karting endurance, Karting Slalom, Auto Slalom, Digital Games, Drifting and Rally 2,” Bamaiyi said.

He said a Festival of Motorsport is scheduled to hold between June 16 and June 19 in Abuja to further hone the talents of participants at the World Championship.

The Deputy Governor of Zamfara, who won a ‘Motor Treasure Hunt’ in 2014, said Nigerian youths would benefit from Motorsport.

“Motorsport will engage youths because one doesn’t need to go to school to know how to drive a fast car, or to be part of the car race.

“We have a future in Motorsport if we harness the talents, and you know that Nigerians do very well in every sport they participate in,” he said.

Mohammed urged the leadership of the ATCN to be proactive in pursuing its objectives and to also select the best representatives for the world championships.

He assured the association of his support toward a successful hosting of the Festival of Motorsport and the world event in France.

Earlier, D’banj commended the group for picking him as Team Captain, noting that his energy would propel the country to victory at the world event.

You know me as a pacesetter and being the first time this is happening in Nigeria, I am looking forward to us winning.

“Motorsport is good for us now that we are talking about creativity; when you look at the creative industry, even those of them in sports, they think creative industry is only about music or movies.

“But I say no because for you to be a successful sportsman, you have to be creative, just like Lewis Hamilton in Formula One that started Motorsport from a tender age.

“We should all support this initiative because it will create jobs for the youths. My expectation is to make sure the right funding and investment needed to propel the sports is achieved,” he said.
