DPO Redeployed Over Illegal Detainment Of Tunde Abass

CP Hakeem Odumosu, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, has ordered the prompt redeployment of CSP Francis Ani, the Divisional Police Officer, Onipanu Division.

According to the Police spokesman of the state, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the transfer was a response to the harassment and illegal arrest of one Tunde Abass and Kabir Mohammed.

Tunde Abass a Nigerian activist, was arrested on March 19th, at the Onipanu area for filming some officers who were allegedly harassing a driver.

 

Abass who narrated his story in detention through his counsel, Ayo Ademiluyi, explained how he was starved and regularly beaten while in police custody.

CP Odumosu also ordered that those policemen involved in the unprofessionalism should be punished if found guilty at a closed room trial.

Tunde Abass went on Twitter to express his gratitude to Nigerians who showed their support in getting him out during his time with the police.

“Thank to everyone for your solidarity support during my time of detentions until my release I appreciate all your concerns towards me.Deep in my heart, I do believe, We Shall Overcome before this victory is won, some will have to get thrown in jail # #PoliceBrutality

Local Resident Electrocuted While Attempting An Illegal Connection In Ondo

A local resident identified as Mayomi Origbemisuyi was shocked to death while reconnecting a wire on an electric pole in Akungba Akoko, Ondo State.

This happened not very far from an Electricity Distribution Company in the community.

According to local reports, the deceased had attempted an illegal connection before being electrocuted.

“When the incident happened, everybody in the area rushed to the scene to catch the glimpse of what happened and the matter was immediately reported at the police station in the community.” Source said.

The remains of the deceased were deposited at a morgue in the community.

The spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident, revealing the victim to be having psychological issues as an investigation into the incident has begun.

“The information we have is that the man is not mentally stable but we have commenced investigation into the incident.”

Sharia Court Orders Man To Be Flogged, For Denying Fathership Os Child

A Sharia Court sitting in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, on Wednesday ordered that Abdulhamid Yakubu be flogged 80 strokes for denying fathership of his child.

Yakubu a trader of Bakin Dogo had earlier rejected paternity, but the Judge, Murtala Nasir, affirmed that the child belonged to him.

Nasir also ordered him to take responsibility and provide for all his children.

Yakubu, had in September, dragged his wife, Maryam Muhammad to the court, alleging that she was an adulterer and he was not the father of his pregnant wife.

The plaintiff had earlier been given an option to swear an oath or provide proof regarding the paternity of his affirmation of the pregnancy not being his, but he refused.

The couple had been married for 21 years and the defendant, Muhammad, gave birth to the sixth child, named Abdulaziz.

Tears flow among traders and property owners at Itobe market of Ofu Local Government Area in Kogi State, as an early morning fire millions of naira valuables.

According to an eyewitness, the disaster started when a trader’s generating set caught fire, thereby engulfing all shops within the vicinity and destroying them including all property therein.

Although no life was lost during the disaster, the eyewitness recounted that the means of livelihood of the numerous roadside traders were lost in the fire incident.

The Onu Itobe, Alhaji Salihu Adaji, while reacting to the disaster, explained that the incident has thrown many businessmen in his domain to the labour market.

He, therefore, urged people in authority to assist those affected by the fire disaster with capital to restart their businesses.
