FIFA Bans CAF's Ahmad Ahmad, Here's Why

FIFA’s Independent Ethics Committee has banned the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Ahmad Ahmad, for a period of five years.

With this development, the African Football governing body boss will not participate in any football-related activities, during the period of the ban.

This development however came after the adjudicatory chamber of FIFA’s Independent Ethics Committee, found Ahmad guilty of abuse of office, misappropriation of funds and, offering gifts and other benefits as CAF President and FIFA Vice-president.

A statement from FIFA, in which Ahmad’s ban was disclosed, read: “The adjudicatory chamber of the independent Ethics Committee has found Ahmad Ahmad, the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and a FIFA Vice-President, guilty of having breached art. 15 (Duty of loyalty), art. 20 (Offering and accepting gifts or other benefits) and art. 25 (Abuse of position) of the 2020 edition of the FIFA Code of Ethics, as well as art. 28 (Misappropriation of funds) of the 2018 edition.

“The investigation into Mr. Ahmad’s conduct in his position as CAF President during the period from 2017 to 2019 concerning various CAF-related governance issues, including the organisation and financing of an Umrah pilgrimage to Mecca, his involvement in CAF’s dealings with the sports equipment company Tactical Steel and other activities.

“In its decision, following an extensive hearing, the adjudicatory chamber ruled that, based on information gathered by the investigatory chamber, Mr. Ahmad had breached his duty of loyalty, offered gifts and other benefits, mismanaged funds and abused his position as the CAF President, pursuant to the FIFA Code of Ethics.

“Consequently, the adjudicatory chamber found that Mr. Ahmad had breached arts 15, 20 and 25 of the current edition of the FIFA Code of Ethics, as well as art. 28 of the 2018 edition, and sanctioned him with a ban from all football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) at both national and international level for five years. In addition, a fine in the amount of CHF 200,000 has been imposed on Mr. Ahmad.”

Portuguese midfielder, Matheus Luiz Nunes has joined English Premier League club, Wolverhampton Wanderers for a record fee.

The club announced the signing in a statement released on their official website, revealing a five-year deal.

“The 23-year-old dynamic midfielder, who was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has penned a five-year deal at Molineux, with a one-year option, bringing an end to his successful stint in Lisbon.

“An exciting talent, Nunes didn’t blossom until later in his youth career having moved to Portugal at the age of 12, with the midfielder still playing local football in the Lisbon Football Association until he was 19, before signing with Estoril in the summer of 2018, where he joined a side including new Wolves teammate Toti.

Speaking on the signing, the Wolves chairman, Jeff Shi disclosed his excitement about the young talent joining the squad.

“Matheus has had two excellent seasons at the top level in Portugal with Sporting and is widely regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in world football, so we are thrilled that he has chosen the Premier League and Wolves as the next step in what we hope will be a fantastic career.” He said.

Now linking up with several of his international teammates, the midfielder arrived at Compton Park on Wednesday, and after completing his medical, will join Bruno Lage’s squad ahead of the Premier League fixture with Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

Nigerian-descent profession left-back, Iyenoma Destiny Udogie has joined English Premier League club, Tottenham Hotspurs from Udinese.

The Lilywhites announced the signing in a statement posted on the club’s website, disclosing the contract to be a 5-year deal.

“We are delighted to announce the permanent signing of Destiny Udogie from Udinese. The club wrote.

“The defender has agreed on a deal that will run until 2027 and will return to the Serie A side on loan for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.

“Having progressed through the ranks at Hellas Verona, Destiny made his professional debut in November, 2020. “An Italy Under-21 international, Destiny made his debut for the Gli Azzurrini in September 2021, in a European Championship qualifying fixture against Luxembourg. He has four caps to his name to date.

Udogie expressed his joy in joining Tottenham, revealing that it is a big honor for him, extolling the club’s history.

“I always knew that football was inside me, was always been my dream since a child, I started when I was four years old. He revealed this in his first interview at the club.

Alex Runarsson: Arsenal Loans Out Goalkeeper

English Premier League Club, Arsenal FC have loaned out Icelandic professional Goalkeeper, Rúnar Alex Runarsson, to Alanyaspor.

The 13-time Premier League winners disclosed this in a statement on its official page, announcing two years since the goalie joined the Gunners.

“Alex Runarsson has joined Turkish Super Lig side Alanyaspor on a season-long loan. The statement read.

“The 27-year-old goalkeeper joined us in September 2020 from the French side, Dijon FCO.

“The Icelandic international spent the 2021/2022 season on loan in Belgium at OH Leuven, where he made 20 appearances in all competitions.

The President of the Turkish club, Alanyaspor, Hasan Çavuşoğlu praised the 27-year-old at the signing ceremony.

“Our transfer efforts continue. We have included goalkeeper Alex Runarsson from the Arsenal team in our squad for a 1-year loan. He also plays for the Icelandic National Team. We believe he will contribute to our team. He came from an important team. Welcome, and I wish him well. Çavuşoğlu said.
